ERDF WM Programme

A new programme of capital support in the West Midlands aimed at boosting the region’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) recycling infrastructure is launched. The programme is part funded by the European Union and will build on a successful programme run in the region last year. Businesses involved in the collection and processing of C&I waste can apply for small De Minimis grants of up to £100,000 or compete for larger grants of around £500,000.

BSI PAS 100 – Producing Quality Compost, 2011 update. A comprehensive review of BSI PAS 100 has taken place which included a re-examination of test methods, new upper limits for some test parameters and a new test method for E.Coli. The updated BSI PAS 100 does not allow the composting of sewage sludge or its derivatives but does allow the addition of digestates from anaerobic and aerobic digestion processes. It includes references to new legislation, guidelines and scientific reports and has been re-formatted to make it easier to use. The updated PAS will be available to download here week commencing 21 February.

AWM WRAP programme Funding

WRAP and AWM (Advantage West Midlands) are working in partnership to develop the commercial and industrial waste recycling sector in the West Midlands.

The WRAP AWM Programme gives recycling businesses in the region an opportunity to benefit from funding and practical support.

The Programme

The programme is an exclusive package of support worth £4.97 million, including grants, practical advice and business development services.

Delivered by WRAP on behalf of AWM, the Programme has been designed to increase the capacity and scope of recycling services dealing with commercial and industrial (C&I) waste.

Eligibility

There are a number of criteria that need to be fulfilled for a company to be eligible for grant funding and/or business development services under the WRAP AWM Programme. For example, businesses must be operating in the West Midlands region and diverting regional C&I waste from landfill.

Those eligible for support include collectors of materials for recycling and businesses that reprocess recovered materials. Manufacturers that use recycled content may also be eligible for support if they are developing a new process, or are focused on improving quality which involves further processing.
